Dead Works vs. Good Works
For proper spiritual growth, Christians must know the difference between works based on self-effort and works of faith. For Christ to have any impact in our lives, it’s imperative that we refrain from trying to earn God’s approval the way the people did under Old-Testament law. Under the law, God’s ability to bless was based on man’s behavior; under grace, this is no longer true. Being righteous before God is now based on our faith in Jesus and in His works, not in ours. Our efforts to help God accomplish what He has already done amount to nothing more than godless labor. Dead works are any attempts to find favor or be made righteous before God by our own ability or willpower; by contrast, believing, first, results in good works. Before the cross, the people were locked into constantly performing; after the cross, we’re free from fruitless works, and please God simply by belief in Him.

The Stance of the Believer (Part 2)
Believers have received the gift of righteousness and salvation from God. Just like any gift, we didn’t earn this; it was given to us when we believed in Jesus Christ. We were instantly saved and made righteous when we believed; this is our standing in Christ. However, our earthly lives have some catching up to do when compared to our stance; this ongoing process of letting God bring our imperfect earthly walk up to match our perfect standing is our state. Understanding this delivers us from trying to accomplish what has already been accomplished.

What It Means to Fall from Grace (Part 2)
Falling from grace isn’t actually falling into sin. When we as believers forget to depend on and trust in God and instead depend on ourselves, this indicates that we’ve fallen back into self-effort to try to justify ourselves before Him. We fall from grace when we don’t believe that Jesus has already done everything necessary for our salvation. When we encounter sickness, lack, sufficiency, or anything else, God’s grace for healing and provision is stronger. We could never earn God’s favor, nor should we try to do so; He wants us to rely on Him, not on ourselves. The law can never change a person for the better or get them to stop sinning; only grace can do that. Receiving the gift of no condemnation that Jesus offers us is the only thing that leads us to genuine and permanent transformation.
