Daily Devotionals

Would you like to read the Word daily, but don’t know how to begin? Reading our Daily Devotionals is a good way to develop the habit of studying the scriptures.

January 19

Having cancelled and blotted out and wiped away the handwriting of the note (bond) with its legal decrees and demands which was in force and stood against us (hostile to us). This [note with its regulations, decrees, and demands] He set aside and cleared completely out of our way by nailing it to [His] cross” (Colossians 2:14, AMPC).

Living life in the Spirit instead of under the law means we don’t have to fear God’s wrath like the people did under the old covenant. Jesus completely revoked the law when He shed His blood on the cross.

January 18

Besides, who would patch old clothing with new cloth? For the new patch would shrink and rip away from the old cloth, leaving an even bigger tear than before” (Matthew 9:16, NLT).

For best results, when living under the covenant of grace, we must completely abandon attempts to hang on to any aspect of the old and fully embrace the new. Mixing the two covenants will produce no results.

January 17

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16).

Relying on our own performance to get out of trouble puts us back under the law; self-effort is never enough to get us out of a pit we fall into. By contrast, confidently receiving the grace that God offers us allows Him to help us in the midst of any situation.

January 16

For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father” (Romans 8:15).

In the old covenant, God was distant and unapproachable because of the sin that separated Him from mankind. Under the new covenant, Jesus has taken care of sin and it’s no longer an issue; we now have the opportunity to be God’s beloved children.

January 15

He has enabled us to be ministers of his new covenant. This is a covenant not of written laws, but of the Spirit. The old written covenant ends in death; but under the new covenant, the Spirit gives life” (2 Corinthians 3:6, NLT).

Under the law, there was no opportunity to get born again and have the Holy Spirit live inside you; this changed when Jesus replaced the law with grace. All believers have now been made able ministers of the new covenant.

January 14

But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth!” (Revelation 3:16, NLT).

In these last days, God has a warning for those whose faith has grown lukewarm. Jesus is coming soon; this should light a fire under us to spread the Gospel of Grace to the lost before it’s too late.
