In an environment that rewards pride, believers are constantly being challenged. We all have our issues, but how we handle them influences the outcome. Accepting God’s grace lets Him step in right where we admit we can’t manage life on our own. Everyone needs that kind of help, because none of us are as strong as we pretend to be.
Grace flows best when we stop trying to control everything and simply take the posture of humility. God, always a generous giver, opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. Pride is our mortal enemy and is something we’ve all felt at some point.
When we stop resisting God and start getting under His mission, things shift on the inside. Humility draws us closer to Him and positions us to receive what He’s been offering all along. Conversely, pride pushes us away from the very help we’re praying for.
Pride blinds us, tricks us, convinces us we’re untouchable, and sets us up for a fall. By contrast, humility comes before honor and is part of instruction in godly wisdom. Choosing to depend fully on God brings safety, clarity, and transformation.
God doesn’t keep a running tally of our mistakes when we’re resting in His grace. We enjoy happy progress when we hear Him tell us that He’ll never hold our sins against us. Grace not only empowers us to rise above the things that used to defeat us, but also comforts us with the truth that we’re loved, even in our weakest moments.
Clothing ourselves with humility gives grace the room to operate in our lives. When we willingly submit to one another and cast our cares on God, we experience His support in real ways. Humility isn’t weakness, but strength correctly placed. God handles the weight—and lightens the load—when we stop pretending that we can carry it alone.
Prayer:
Lord, teach us to walk in humility so that Your favor can freely flow in our lives. Thank You for helping us to depend on You more each day and resist anything that pulls us out of position. In Jesus’ name, amen.
