Weekly Grace

We live in an environment that puts us in bondage. The world is constantly telling us to try harder, strive for perfection, and feel guilty and condemned when we make mistakes. Pretty soon, we’re trapped in this way of thinking and it’s making us miserable. Thankfully, the Holy Ghost delivers us from this.

Deliverance always starts with the Word being preached to us. The world looks at the message of the cross and calls it foolish. However, for those of us who’ve already experienced what Jesus did for us, we know this “foolishness” is actually the power of God. He takes delight in destroying the wisdom of the wise and bringing to nothing the understanding of the prudent.

We can’t ignore the truth when it comes to how we live. In a letter to the Corinthians, Paul recited a long list of sins that the world considers acceptable and warned them to flee from those lifestyles. Too many people think they can handle these issues on their own, but assuming this only ensnares us. We’re delivered by the Spirit of grace, not by our own struggling efforts.

Trying to live a sinless life without God’s help only makes it worse, but He’ll never leave us stranded. When our sin increases and abounds, God’s unmerited favor surpasses it and increases even more. Real freedom from sin is found only in Christ; when we know Him, we know the truth that makes us free. If the Son therefore makes us free, we’re free indeed.

We’ll never receive the love we need from the world; it only comes from God, who so loved the world that He gave us His only begotten Son. Real love isn’t about our own efforts to love Him, but our belief that He loved us first and gave Jesus as the sacrifice for our sins. Faith in this shields us from the world’s influence.

Father, thank You for empowering us to walk in deliverance. We choose to trust in Your love and allow the Holy Spirit to guide us daily. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Whether we know it or not, we’re engaged in a spiritual fight to the death with an unseen enemy. The thief has declared war against God’s people; his mission is to steal, kill, and destroy us. Spiritual warfare is real, but many Christians make the mistake of looking for the battle in the wrong place. Instead of focusing on what we can see, the devil’s primary target is our thinking.

Satan knows that our lives move in the direction of our beliefs; one of his favorite tactics is to keep our attention on rules and performance. He gains strength from a law-based mindset that constantly reminds us of our failures and shortcomings. Grace, however, shifts our focus away from what we’ve done and onto what Jesus has already accomplished for us. The enemy loses one of his greatest weapons when we think this way.

We can trace this tactic all the way back to the garden of Eden. God generously gave Adam access to every tree in the garden except one, emphasizing His abundant provision. The serpent twisted the conversation until it sounded as if God was withholding something good. The devil still operates the same way today, trying to move our attention from God’s generosity to perceived lack.

This is why right-thinking and humility matter so much. In an environment that exalts pride, God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. Heaven operates the exact opposite of the way the world does; depending on God instead of on ourselves gives us the advantage. The right mindset teaches us to trust Christ’s finished works rather than our own performance; it keeps us anchored in God’s goodness even when circumstances try to tell a different story.

When we believe what God says about us, spiritual warfare becomes less about striving and more about standing. We’re not fighting for victory, but from victory. Whoever places their confidence in Jesus will never be put to shame. This confidence gives us power to overcome every attack.

God, we’re grateful that You’ve already given us Your Word, which is all we need to win life’s battles. Teach us to trust You more fully and to stand confidently in the victory You’ve already won for us. In Jesus’ name, amen.

It’s impossible for the believer living a Christian life to avoid persecution from the devil. We do need to resist him so that he’ll flee from us, but we need to see the whole picture of spiritual warfare to know what we’re up against. Satan directs his attacks against our thought lives; God reminds us that our victory comes from renewing our minds with His way of thinking instead of adopting the world’s system. When the enemy targets us, God has already equipped us with His Word and His authority to overcome every strategy of darkness.

One of the greatest gifts God gave us is the freedom to choose. He placed before us the path that leads to life and blessing and He encourages us to choose it. We get to decide whether we’ll believe the enemy’s lies or trust in Jesus’ finished works. Winning begins with making the right choice about what we believe.

Walking in victory means handling Scripture with precision. Like workmen, we diligently study the Word of truth so we can correctly understand and apply it without confusion or shame. We must also accurately distinguish between the law and grace, because what belongs to one covenant doesn’t automatically belong to the other.

What we consistently focus on influences our thinking and directs our lives. This is why we must intentionally attend to God’s Word and listen to what He’s saying. Believing that we’re righteous in Christ makes strongholds fall and the devil’s suggestions lose their power.

Satan’s greatest weapon is condemnation, but Christ has removed the grounds for his accusations. Through His blood, our conscience has been cleansed from the burden of dead works. Instead of being occupied with what we do for God, we can rest in what He has already done for us through Jesus. This is where the battle is won.

Lord, thank You for the victory You’ve already secured for us. Help us to renew our minds daily and stand firm in the finished works of Christ. In Jesus’ name, amen.

One of the greatest revelations we can receive is that the Christian life was never designed to be lived through self-effort. Under the covenant of grace, the Holy Spirit serves as the administrator of everything Jesus obtained for us. The Holy Ghost isn’t just a feeling or a moment of emotional excitement, but a real person who guides, teaches, counsels, and directs our lives. Learning to trust Him moves us past relying on ourselves to the point where we begin depending on His leadership.

When Paul and his companions were traveling and considered going into a certain region, the Spirit of Jesus wouldn’t permit them to go there. Instead, He redirected them toward where God wanted them to go. In the same way, we don’t have to stumble through life hoping we make the right decisions. We have the Holy Spirit actively leading us along the path God has prepared for us.

The Spirit also administers true freedom. Liberty isn’t simply the ability to do whatever we want; it’s freedom from the pressure of trying to earn God’s acceptance through performance. Where the Spirit is allowed to work, there’s freedom to believe rightly and receive all that grace has already provided. When we turn to Christ, the veil of law-based living is removed, and we can clearly see God’s goodness.

Too often, religious traditions keep us focused on rules instead of relationships. When tradition becomes more important than God’s Word, we’re prevented us from receiving from Him. The Holy Spirit continually points us away from legalism and toward a living relationship with Jesus. He writes God’s truth on our hearts instead of placing burdens on our shoulders.

Letting the Spirit lead us moves us out from under the demands of the law. We can then enjoy everything that God has already provided through every spiritual blessing in Christ. God never promised us an easy life, but He did promise success when we trust Him. Following Him elevates life to a whole new level.

Father, thank You for giving us the Holy Spirit to guide, teach, and empower us. Help us to trust His leadership and receive all that You’ve freely provided. In Jesus’ name, amen.

The phrase “more than meets the eye” has significance on several different levels. It’s easy for us to become focused only on what’s happening in the natural world; we pay attention to our jobs, our finances, our health, and the responsibilities that fill our days. Those things matter, but life operates on more than a physical level. There’s also a spiritual realm; when we ignore this, we miss the deeper reality that sustains us.

We mustn’t spend all our energy chasing perishable things that satisfy only temporary needs. God points us toward something greater: spiritual nourishment that produces lasting life. While our bodies need food and water, our spirits need a constant supply of His grace. This changes how we look at everyday life and helps us recognize where true fulfillment comes from.

We need to dig deeper and go beneath the surface of what most churches teach. God gave the law so that all people could see how sinful they were. However, as people sinned more and more, His wonderful grace became more abundant.

God has already made provision for us through Jesus Christ. He saved us by His grace when we believed. We can’t take the credit for this because it’s a gift from Him. We don’t have to earn spiritual life through religious performance, self-effort, or striving. Instead, we receive it from Him and trust in what Jesus has already accomplished.

Many of us were taught to depend primarily on ourselves, but God invites us into a different way of living, one that relies on His strength instead of on our own abilities. It comes through His kindness, not through our own good works. If His favor depended on our own efforts, then it wouldn’t be what it really is—free and undeserved.

We need God to succeed. He’s working in us, giving us the desire and the power to do what pleases Him. Understanding this lets us stop working for His approval and begin resting in His love and finished works.

God, help us see beyond the natural and trust You more deeply in every area of our lives. Teach us to rest in Your grace and depend on Your finished works each day In Jesus’ name, amen.

We all need grace from time to time. Life has plenty of pressure points, missteps, and opportunities to make mistakes; without God’s help, none of us could make it through the day. His grace isn’t just a nice idea, but the power working in us that teaches us how to live. Not only does it remind us of God’s love, but it also instructs us in righteousness.

Grace teaches us to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts, enabling us to live soberly and righteously. On a practical level, it shows up for everybody to make salvation available to all while also training us to turn away from our old habits and embrace a life that reflects God’s goodness. It’s a powerful force that can’t be underestimated; the goodness of God leads a person to repent and change their way of thinking.

Looking at Jesus through Scripture shows us grace in action, full and overflowing with truth. We see shadows and types of Him in the Old Testament when Melchizedek showed up to give Abram victory in battle. He came close to us, lived among us, and revealed exactly what God’s heart is like. As we walk with Him, we grow in confidence, knowing that His grace is sufficient for every situation we face.

After being trained by grace, Paul became free from his past and was empowered to successfully move forward in his new life. This was why he could truthfully say he hadn’t wronged or defrauded anyone. This applies to us as well. Regardless of how often we mess up and miss the mark, God is always willing to give us another chance.

To succeed, the world says to try harder, but the world has no concept of God’s undeserved, unearned, unmerited favor. The temptation to fall into striving will always be there, but we don’t have to cave in to it. God has flipped the switch. Accepting what He did through Christ lets us experience success differently—through dependence on Him, not self-effort.

Prayer: Father, thank You for Your grace that teaches and sustains us. We trust You completely and depend on You, no matter what happens in our lives. In Jesus’name, amen.
