For the week of September 19, 2022 Responding to the Promises

If you’ve ever had someone make a promise to you and you knew with utmost confidence they would keep their promise, you can remember the joy and anticipation you felt. God has made some amazing promises to us in His Word; we receive them when we know how to respond to them. Life is never perfect; therefore, the correct response when we encounter an issue is to locate and apply the specific Scripture in the Word that covers our situation.

This highlights the need to thoroughly know God’s Word of grace. Constantly meditating on and pondering over it makes our way prosperous and gives us good success. We’re admonished to give attention to His Word, incline our ears to hear what He says, and keep it in our hearts.

We can place complete trust in what God says because He’s not like humans who can break their promises. He’s not a man that He should lie; whatever He speaks, He’ll do. Even when we struggle to keep our word to someone, God remains faithful because He can’t deny Himself. In the Old Testament, He fulfilled every promise to Israel; He’ll do the same with us.

With this is mind, faith is the proper response to God’s promises. However, the kind of faith we need isn’t our faith, but faith in the perfect faith of Jesus Christ. Paul wrote about this kind of faith to the Romans and to the Galatians. Whether we need peace, healing, deliverance, prosperity, or anything else, faith that gives us rest with no doubts or anxieties positions us to receive what was promised.

When the world presses in on us and contradicts God’s Word, fear that what God promised won’t come to pass is the natural response. Faith is our supernatural response—and the more powerful of the two. This gives us the victory that overcomes the world, and ushers in the promises.

Prayer:

Lord, Your promises made everything available to us that we’ll ever need to succeed and prosper. Our faith in them is the key to receiving them. When we pay more attention to Your Word than to the situation at hand, we see supernatural manifestations. Thank You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
