For the week of May 3, 2021 Biblical Equality

The world is full of broken relationships. However, when we look at them, we can be thankful that we have an alternative to what we see. In the beginning, God made Adam and Eve as equals; they had perfect relationships with each other and with Him. When sin destroyed that special bond and their relationship became unequal, God showed favor toward mankind and refused to let things stay that way. Jesus came and restored gender equality, so that both men and women could once again have co-dominion over the works of God’s hands.

Under the old Law of Moses, patriarchal attitudes were accepted without question, and women were seen as inferior. There was a clear distinction between males and females, and the genders were treated differently. The finished works of Jesus radically changed relationships between men and women. Under the present covenant of grace, the clear message now is that God shows no partiality based on gender.

This God-given equality is no small thing. Jesus, being in the form of God, didn’t think it robbery to be equal with Him; this mind was in Christ Jesus, and needs to be in us as well. This type of thinking levels the playing field between men and women, gives both genders access to God, and allows us to see His original plan for our lives. This plan puts both males and females on equal footing in His eyes.

Jesus’ perfect sacrifice on the cross ended the enmity between men and women that Adam and Eve’s sin caused. Peace with God has been restored, and the middle wall of partition separating people from Him has been broken down. Because of the grace that Jesus brought, we now all have access by one Spirit to the Father.

Prayer:

Lord, You made it clear through Your Son that inequalities are not Your will. In You, both men and women have the freedom to be who You called them to be. We’re grateful for that. In Jesus’ name, amen.
