For the week of October 4, 2021 A Grace-Based View of Financial Stewardship

As Christians, we must understand that God has abundantly blessed us in every area of our lives—including our financial lives. Translated into daily living, this means that we no longer need to fear lack or insufficiency in our finances. All good things come from God, including the ability to earn an income; therefore, allowing Him to direct allocation of the resources He has provided us brings increase where we need it. Lest we forget this, His Word reminds us that He’s the one who gives us the power to get wealth.

Stewardship is defined as the careful and responsible management of something entrusted to one’s care. We see the world’s way of money management all around us as people struggle to make ends meet and talk about living “paycheck to paycheck.” Their mindset is that they are their own source of prosperity; this differs from the stewardship mindset of the believer who realizes that Jesus is the source of their prosperity. God always keeps His promise to supply all our needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

It’s God’s will that we experience success and prosperity. He wishes above all things that we prosper and be in good health; that includes a financially healthy bank account as well. Believers have been called to live in the world without being a part of it. Financial prosperity is an excellent way to stand out from the world and call attention to God’s goodness.

Money is good to have, but it’s simply a tool to help others. When God shows us grace in our finances, the right thing to do is to share with others. The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, and He adds no sorrow with it. God is a never-ending supply for us. Faith in His promises of success and prosperity allow Him to turn lack into abundance. Jesus came that we might have life, and have it more abundantly. Trusting in Him brings this to pass.

Prayer:

ord, we don’t have to struggle with money because You’ve taken care of everything we need, including our financial needs. We’re grateful that You, and not the world’s systems, are our source. Thank You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
