The Prayers of the Powerful

Sept. 7, 2020 | By Creflo Dollar

Depending on how we look at it, life can either be an exciting adventure or a painful trek filled with problems. Struggling with trouble can leave us feeling powerless and small when we try to handle it by ourselves; however, there’s someone stronger than us who’s waiting to intervene on our behalf. God wants to get involved in every aspect of our lives, but He actually needs our permission to do so. Praying in agreement with His Word unleashes unlimited power that gets results.

Agreeing with God’s Word means thanking Him for everything He has done, and continues to do, in our lives. It takes into account the finished works of Jesus Christ. No religious begging or pleading is involved; it makes no sense to yell at God to do something He already authorized us to do. “Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving” (Colossians 4:2, NKJV). No matter what’s going on around us right now, thanking God because He has already taken care of the problem allows heaven to influence the circumstances.

We all have times when we’re too overwhelmed to tackle the situation, and we feel like running and hiding. God knows exactly what we’re going through, and He very much wants to be of assistance. “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble”(Psalm 46:1). This is a timeless promise. He’ll come alongside us and give us strength for the task, if we’re willing to take Him up on His offer.

Prayer should be two-way communication between us and God. When we believe that He’ll answer us when we make a request, He honors the confidence we place in Him. Prayerfully conversing with Him allows Him to reveal things that the rest of the world doesn’t know. “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not” (Jeremiah 33:3). God doesn’t change; what He said thousands of years ago is still true today, and will remain true until the end of time.

Effective prayer requires faith in what God promised us in the Scriptures. One of those promises is peace of mind when we trust Him enough to turn over all our worries to Him. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6, 7, NIV). No matter what’s wrong in our lives, God is willing and able to right those wrongs.

Praying with the full expectation that what we ask for will come to pass enables God to fulfill our requests. This means not allowing any doubt to cloud our minds, and simply believing without reservations. “And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive” (Matthew 21:22). It’s very simple and straightforward; we don’t need to add any conditions or make it complicated. We’ve already been healed, delivered, and made prosperous; accepting these things by faith causes them to come to pass.

Prayer holds the power to change our entire life. It allows God to turn defeat into victory, brings us into His presence, and opens us up to the joy than only comes from Him. “Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying” (Romans 12:12, NLT). When we feel like we’re drowning, prayer is our lifeline.
