The Power of Our Faith

If you’ve ever been in trouble and had no idea how to get out of it, you probably remember the feelings of helplessness and frustration you experienced. This can happen to anyone, but getting stuck in a situation isn’t God’s will for us. Most people deal with it by relying on their own willpower and intellectual knowledge, or by seeking some type of human assistance. By comparison, believers have a different, much more powerful source of aid at their disposal.

God has promised to deliver us from any trouble we could possibly get into. This promise is something we can fully rely on and have confidence in. “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1). When we go to Him, first, we find the strength to overcome problems that bewilder others. Faith in God’s ability and willingness to help us means the difference between failure and success.

Believing is more important than simply doing; when our belief is strong enough, it leads to action. Our belief that God wants the best possible outcome for us shapes and directs our acts of faith. Our reliance on Him gives us the wisdom to find the right course of action leading to success. “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths” (Proverbs 3:5, 6).

Others may think that their own wisdom can get them out of a jam; therefore, seeking God’s help never occurs to them. However, all human wisdom has its limitations. When everything else fails, faith allows us to tap into a supernatural source of power to get positive results. The source of this power comes not from us, but straight from God. “That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God” (1 Corinthians 2:5).

To people who don’t understand how faith works, trusting in God can seem like a mystery to them. The traditional way of solving problems doesn’t involve Him at all, but the power of our faith is undeniable. Faith is stronger than any force on earth. “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith” (1 John 5:4).

It doesn’t matter how bleak the situation may appear at the time; God is well able to make a way when there is no way. When others don’t know what to do about a problem, we can trust that God will direct us on what to do, and when to do it. We stand on our faith by moving forward and doing what we know is the right thing, even when we don’t see any tangible results right away. “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good report” (Hebrews 11:1, 2).

Faith isn’t a sign of weakness, but of great strength. It can be tempting to simply give up when a problem stands in our way, but faith moves the mountains in our lives that seem insurmountable. Consistently employing it brings amazing results. “…For verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you” (Matthew 17:20). When we believe, all limitations are removed.
