Our Ultimate Protection When All Else Fails

Sept. 12, 2022 | By Creflo Dollar

We live in a fallen world full of strife and conflict. There are most likely times when we feel it’s coming too close to us, and we look for something to protect us from danger. Without someone to lean on who’s more powerful than the evil around us, even the bravest individual can be intimidated. Thankfully, we do have someone bigger and stronger watching over us; when all of our own efforts fail, God provides us with supernatural safety.

God is well able to work through anyone He chooses and in any situation that presents itself. Faith that He’s our source of ultimate safety in times of danger allows Him to work in our lives. Everyone needs assurance from someone in their corner when trouble shows up; God willingly intercedes when we ask Him for help. He’s on our side, and whatever bad report rises up to frighten us will not prevail. “What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31).

It doesn’t matter in what form evil presents itself or how strong it appears; if it goes against God and those who trust in Him, it doesn’t stand a chance. The story of how young David killed Goliath illustrates this (1 Samuel 17:4-51). David prevailed against the giant, not by his own strength or cleverness, but by the power of God. In these present times, this truth is especially important to remember and apply to whatever situation we face.

Being human, David may have felt some fear when he squared off with Goliath, but he didn’t let that stop him. He had the full support of God, Himself, and he trusted that God wouldn’t let him down. God’s faithfulness still holds true today. Whatever is swirling around us in a threatening manner doesn’t have the power to overcome us. “I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust... Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee (Psalm 91:2, 5-7). Resting in this promise makes us “Psalm 91-equipped.”

Sometimes the anticipation of something bad happening is worse than the actual event. Our enemy, the devil, works through bad news and negative reports in the physical realm; his goal is to get into our heads and cause panic and terror. God reassures us that when we trust in Him, there’s absolutely no reason to be anxious or afraid. He has no intention of abandoning those who depend on Him for their safety. “Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee” (Deuteronomy 31:6).

No matter what happens or what situations come against us, our complete faith in God’s promises of protection provides us with a shield of safety we cannot see, but is one-hundred percent real. On our own, whatever we do to ensure our safety can be shaky at best. Relying on Him grounds us in someone greater than us. “But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil” (2 Thessalonians 3:3). His faithful pledge to us on this is valid forever.
