God Is On Your Side

Have you ever felt all alone and afraid when you found yourself in a tough situation? It’s natural for us to feel this way when we’re faced with trouble too big to handle by ourselves. Thankfully, there’s supernatural assistance available we can rely on; this source of help will always be nearby when we need it. God loves us very much. He wants us to know that He’s on our side and wants us to win in life.

There will always be individuals who choose to set themselves against us. For whatever reason, they oppose any forward progress we’re trying to make. However, there’s no stopping the believer who relies on God. “What then shall we say to [all] this? If God is for us, who [can be] against us? [Who can be our foe, if God is on our side?]” (Romans 8:31, AMPC).

There’s an important lesson about this in the Old Testament story of David and Goliath. Young David didn’t let fear incapacitate him when a giant who was intent on killing him came against him. Instead, he stepped out in faith, knowing his God was on his side. The result was nothing short of a miracle (1 Samuel 17:1-51).

Whenever a giant in our lives seems threatening or unbeatable, we can take comfort in knowing that God is always stronger than any adversary we face. It doesn’t matter what it feels like, looks like, or sounds like. He’ll never say “no” when we ask Him for His help. When I cry out to You, then my enemies will turn back; this I know, because God is for me. In God I have put my trust; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?(Psalm 56:9, 11, NKJV). When God gets involved and intercedes on our behalf, any type of evil that has set itself up against us as our enemy will surely fall.

Life can be discouraging sometimes. Problems can materialize unexpectedly, like a brick wall—or a giant—blocking our way. We can’t possibly hope to prevail against something so big on our own. At times like these, trusting God to handle the issue when we don’t know what to do turns things that look hopeless turns into win-win situations. “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still” (Exodus 14:14, NIV).

God envisions good things for us, not evil or harmful things; we can put our full confidence and trust in this. He has a perfect plan for our lives. Studying His Word on this and coming before Him in prayer allows us to begin seeing that plan materialize. I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for. When you call on me, when you come and pray to me, I’ll listen (Jeremiah 29:11, 12, MSG).

We’ll all undoubtedly face adversity in life at one time or another, but we have the promise that it won’t overcome us. Regardless of what we see around us, we have divine protection. “When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee” (Isaiah 43:2). God is always bigger than our trouble. He will uphold us.
