Faith in God to Heal Us

No matter where we are on life’s journey, an unexpected illness can seem like a mountain in our path. We put our faith and trust in doctors, but sometimes even they can’t help us. Thankfully, God’s love for us extends into every area of our lives, including our health. When the situation looks hopeless, healing begins with confidence that God wants us healthy.

God has no limitations; we therefore don’t need to limit our thinking when it comes to living life in perfect health. During His ministry, Jesus repeatedly did what seemed impossible—He raised the dead. He brought back Jairus’ daughter (Mark 5:21-23, 35-42), a woman’s only son (Luke 7:11-15), and His good friend, Lazarus (John 11:41-44). This kind of power is still available to us; we avail ourselves of it by our belief in God’s will concerning our health.

We live in a world that doesn’t know Jesus or His willingness and ability to heal. Having a relationship with Him is having a relationship with the one who is life, itself. “I am that bread of life. Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead. This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die. I am the living bread which came down from heaven…” (John 6:48-51). Remembering what Jesus did on the cross to provide healing when we need it helps us to banish the negative thinking that threatens our minds when the news from the doctor isn’t good.

Life, not death, is God’s will for us. Too many people simply resign themselves to putting up with poor health. However, this kind of thinking allows the devil to steal from us what God wants us to enjoy. “The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life” (John 10:10, NLT). Even before the doctors pronounce that there’s nothing more they can do about our condition, we’ve been authorized to speak boldly and directly to sickness. I will not die; instead, I will live to tell what the Lord has done(Psalm 118:17, NLT).

Our words carry tremendous power. When we speak out of our faith in God’s healing power, we unleash unmatched authority from Him. Genuinely believing that He wants us healed causes things to happen that we have no logical explanation for. Belief, with no trace of doubt, is the key. “And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you” (Matthew 17:20).

A single mustard seed is so tiny that it’s hard to see, yet it gives birth to something big. Our faith is the same way. The disciples didn’t understand this when they asked Jesus to increase their faith (Luke 17:5). Consistently working our faith and keeping it out in the field until we see results takes perseverance.

The world will contradict God’s Word on this and tell us faith is foolish and inconsequential. However, never letting go of it allows God, Himself, to get involved in our healing. He has given each of us a measure of faith. Instead of asking for more of it, patiently and persistently working what we already have brings miracles to pass.
